SEMBEGO — Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are rapidly evolving past their traditional roles as mere guardians of religious orthodoxy. Today, they are redefining themselves as dynamic epicenters for adaptive, innovative, and inclusive modern education.

This progressive spirit took center stage during the 81st Independence Day anniversary ceremony at the Pangeran Diponegoro Islamic Boarding School Foundation in Sembego Maguwoharjo Sleman, Yogyakarta. The foundation honored its top educators and administrative staff for pushing academic boundaries, advancing digital literacy, and fostering highly collaborative learning environments.
The leadership accolades recognized institutional heads who successfully modernized school management:
Fauzan, S.Pd.I., M.Ag., Gr. (Head of MA Diponegoro) – Named Lighthouse Educator for Digital Literacy for publishing nine strategic madrasah management articles online, alongside authored volumes on educational philosophy, Islamic thought, and ontology.

Moh. Afifi, S.Th.I. (Head of SMK Diponegoro Depok) – Collaborative School Leadership Award for building multi-sector synergies to champion inclusive education.
Slamet Subagya, S.Pd., M.Pd.(Head of MI Al-Huda Karangnongko) – Inspirational Madrasah Leader. Sri Indah, S.Ag., M.Pd. (Head of MI Ma’arif Sembego) – Creative Madrasah Leader.
Hj. Nuzulul Mustaqimah, S.Pd.I. (Head of RA Masyithoh Karangnongko) – Inspirational Early Childhood Educator. Ika Hariyaningsih, S.Pd. (Head of RA Harapan Bangsa) – Creative Early Childhood Educator.

Top pedagogical honors went to teachers and administrative staff who demonstrated exceptional student management and commitment:
Ahmad Hafiduddin, S.Pd. (Teacher at MA Diponegoro) – Distinguished Teacher Award for his empathetic, persuasive guidance in unlocking student potential and resolving behavioral challenges.
Ari Hidayati, S.Pd. (SMK Diponegoro Depok), Fatimah, S.Pd.SD. (MI Al-Huda Karangnongko), Pramu Marjiatun, S.Pd.I. (MI Ma’arif Sembego), Zaeniyah Lilis Setyowati, S.Pd. (RA Masyithoh Karangnongko), and Istianah, S.Pd. (RA Harapan Bangsa) – Each received the Distinguished Teacher Award.
Wiji Lestari (Staff at SMP Diponegoro Depok) – Excellence in Administration Award for outstanding operational support.

The awards were presented directly by representatives of the Pangeran Diponegoro Islamic Boarding School Foundation, Drs., H. Jambari and Ripno, S.E., M.Si. The strict internal selection criteria measured discipline, institutional loyalty, adaptive performance, and exemplary moral leadership (uswatun hasanah).
